The rhythm of the sound, which they felt as much as heard, subtly changed,
seeming to become more insistent. The stroboscopic flashing of the great
crystal globe changed to match it, acquiring a hypnotic quality. Their
glyphs pulsed in time to the new beat, and they felt their skin tingling
with it.
Fred and Astra found themselves losing all control of their bodies. First they began to twitch, then to dance and caper wildly around the stone block on which stood the pulsing sphere. They did not remember much after that. The next thing that Astra was aware of - whether a short time or a long time later she had no way of knowing - was regaining consciousness with a throbbing headache. She was lying sprawled across Fred, who judging by his groans was also just coming round. Thankfully the music - if that was what it was - had stopped. The globe now shone with a steady white light, and their glyphs were no long pulsing. They clambered to their feet.
