Eritraea seemed to believe Fred's remarkable story, perhaps convinced by
his now far too big armour and the sack of treasure that he carried. By
mutual agreement, they teamed up for better defence. Fred did not like to
admit it, but Eritraea would add far more to his defence than he -
in his current body - could add to hers.
Fred had told Eritraea his story, but she had told him no more than her name and her homeland. He was naturally curious about her. "How does a woman from the far south come to be in these caves?" he asked. "I am sorry," she said, "but I cannot tell you that. And please don't ask me what those brigands wanted, for I cannot tell you that either. All I will say is that I am on my way home now, so since you are planning to make a new home for yourself in Aqualaria our paths will lie together for many leagues." She spoke the Common Tongue well Fred noted, though with an unusual accent. They traveled on through the caves together. After a few hours, Eritraea yawned. "You lose track of time down in these caves," she said, "but I feel in need of sleep. Perhaps you would keep watch while I sleep, and wake me when you estimate that four hours have passed. Then I will take my turn to keep watch, and you can sleep." Fred agreed to this, and Eritraea was soon asleep.
