The brigands decide that the time had come for the girl to go down. They
whipped their weapons at her, expecting a short and easy fight, but
instead they received the whipping of their lives. The girl side-kicked
the first brigand, sending him into the stone and earth of the nearest
wall. She whirled, evading a scimitar and did a half-flip, simultaneously
surprising the two men behind her and kicking in their guts with a mighty
force. Before she could balance herself, however, the largest of the
brigands grabbed her by the throat and threw her down upon the ground, she
lost her sword as a result. With his legs he pinned her down, with his
hands he continued to squeeze her throat. Even as her cheeks reddened and
her lungs burned for lack of air, the sheer weight of the man prevented
her from using her arms to strike him. Spots began to appear and
disappear before her blurred eyes and the pain within her throat and lungs
was becoming unbearable. With one last once of energy she shoved her knee
upwards, hoping to strike the man's soft underbelly. Instead she pounded
his groin and while he grunted in surprise and pain, even as he lurched
backwards and upwards, she shoved him further from her and gasped for
air.
She saw a short-sword lying on the ground and picked it up, then, hearing a noise to her right, she ducked and saw a broadsword miss her by centimeters - and strike with full force another of the brigands, severing his jugular. She shoved her sword forward, aiming low, and gutted her assailant before he could even take his weapon out of his comrade. With blood splattering about the cave and men going down, the few remaining brigands fled. Better to come back another time than die today. Fred was awe-struck. He carefully came out of the shadows and got the girl's attention. "Ahem," he said. She nearly flung her short sword at him, but her warrior instinct held her hand. "Who the hades are you?!?" said the girl. Soon Fred told her his tale, and she in turn gave him her name: Eritraea of the Southern Jungles. She was not from Aqualaria, as Fred had first thought, she was from the far, far south - "mysterious lands ruled by mysterious peoples" as the addage went in Allaria.
