Fred hadn't expected to encounter any young women in what had until very
recently been the dragon's realm, but this was the second one he had come
across within an hour or two. Whilst his old ingrained notions of chivalry
urged him to go to her aid at once, his recent experience with Leonora
urged caution. So for now he remained hidden behind the rocks.
He noted that the girl wore chain mail, which surprised him, though she had no helm but let her red hair hang free. Though her face was beautiful, she was unusually tall and looked athletic. Perhaps she was an Aqualarian, for they were said to be a race of amazons. "No, you can't have it!" the girl was saying. "If you won't give it up willingly, then we will have to take it by force," one of the brigands said. She drew her sword. "You can try," she said.
