Caverns and Meditations

Now he had stopped and set up camp for the night. He started up a campfire and heated up some of his rations. After dinner, he sat examining Leonora's chemise. It was hard to believe that this little piece of lingerie was responsible for all his current woes. Maybe there was yet some way to use it to his advantadge? Fred shook his head and put the chemise back in his travelpack. His own body was dead, and there was no way he would resort to Leonora's type of tactics. He would just have to get used to being a female. Fred shuddered at the thought of engaging in certain activities while in this form. Certainly he could not go to men - even if he hadn't been such an atrocious womanizer in his past life, the very thought disquisted him. He had heard that in the lands of Aqualaria, love between two women wasn't as taboo as it was in his own country. This rumor cheered Fred up now, even if he had no idea how two women were actually supposed to love each other. Also, he had been pleased to discover he was now a virgin, as hard as it was to believe.

Fred realized his experience had changed him in more ways than one. He felt great shame for all the evil he had done - for squandering his family fortune, for leaving Velus behind, and especially for burning down that nunnery, though it had been in self-defense. Perhaps this was God's way of punishing him? Fred resolved that from now on he would try to lead a good life - he would quit drinking, smoking and gambling, and he would donate money to charitable causes.

"Fool, you'll still never leave these caves alive." Leonora's voice suddenly laughed in his brain. Fred slapped himself upside the head, and the sound died down somewhat. That was really getting annoying, and Fred hoped it would stop soon.

Suddenly, he heard voices from the other side of the cavern. He crept up, sword in hand, and peered out over a cluster of rocks to see a shocking sight. A red-haired young lady, perhaps a year younger than himself, was being accosted by three of the smuggler-brigands that lived in these caves. They seemed to be demanding something from the girl. Fred grinned. It seemed his chance to prove himself a righteous person was already here.

1. Fred goes to the girl's rescue immediately.
2. Tempered by his experience with Leonora, Fred decides to listen in on the conversation first.
