Fred had met Ridcully once or twice. He knew that, in spite of Ridcully's
position as the head of Allaria's university for aspiring wizards, he was
not especially bright, though an amiable enough chap.
Fred introduced him to Astra and Velus. Ridcully was intrigued by Velus. Apparently even such an experienced wizard had never seen anything quite like him before. And, as a man with an eye for the ladies, he was naturally impressed by Astra, tall, buxom and red-headed, and (like Fred and Velus) wearing what after a year had been reduced to tattered rags. (Armour was all well and good when on a quest but - especially in this warm climate - it was too hot and heavy to wear day in, day out.) After the introductions had been completed, Fred asked Ridcully how he had arrived on the island. Ridcully frowned. "A magical experiment that went wrong," he said. "I should never have let myself be talked into it. But the Vice-Chancellor was so keen." "Would the Vice-Chancellor take over as Arch-Chancellor if you were to disappear?" Astra asked. "Er, yes, I suppose he would. What are you suggesting?" "Nothing. I'm sure it was an honest mistake. So, you're a wizard. Can you cast a spell to transport us back home?"
