Fred considered his options one more time. If he freed the Princess, how
much help would she really be? She would not have a weapon and, though the
warrior women of Aqualaria were famed for their skill at unarmed combat,
Fred doubted that she could achieve much against a dragon without sword,
axe or spear.
So he turned towards the western fork, but then he hesitated. Perhaps Astra could be useful after all, as a distraction or a decoy? Coming to a decision, he went east after all. He soon arrived in the Hall of Keys. A long line of nails had been hammered into the wall, and from each nail hung a key. Conveniently, above each nail a label was attached to the wall, describing the function of the corresponding key. "Front Door". No. "Mailbox". No. "Torture Chamber". No. "Magic Chains, Naked Princesses for the Binding of". Yes, that was the one, a large key made of brass. As Fred lifted the key from the nail, he had the uncomfortable thought that so far things seemed to have been suspiciously easy.
