Jarlath was so distracted by what had happened between him and Carola (whatever it was
that had happened between him and Carola) that it took him some time to notice that the
sun was rising. He went over and woke the others up.
"You've got to be kidding me," said Belinda, clearly frustrated. "It can't be morning already!" "Well, it sure looks like... huh?" The sun's disk seemed to be getting larger every second. They had to look away from the blinding light. "I don't think that's the sun." A huge disk streaked over them and crashed into the dense forest below with a spectacular burst of light. The four stood for several seconds, trying to absorb what had happened. "Somehow, I don't think that was the sun," Carola finally said. "Whatever that was, my sleep patterns are going to be off for weeks," said Jarlath. The small disk was no longer quite as bright, but still too bright to look at, and cast enough light that it seemed like day around them. "We should probably investigate that," said Matthias. "Except it's too bright for us to get near." "Maybe we could try to sleep while one of us takes the watch until it cools down, if it ever does," suggested Belinda. They decided that Matthias would take watch while the others would pull their blankets deep around them and try to sleep.
