I was actually kind of surprised when it moved, even if it didn't actually
move much. I'd really thought the thing was dead. Well,
if it was alive, that meant my job was to rescue it, right? After all,
that was what I'd come here for. I gritted my teeth and got to
work. Getting back to the airlock wasn't exactly easy. I had to give the Ib a nice, hard shove down the corridor and then give myself a harder shove off the bulkhead so I could get to the end with the airlock before it did and stop it from smashing into the wall. Since it appeared to be un- or at most semi-conscious, it probably wouldn't be with-it enough to make sure it didn't "land" on its head or something. Small as these lifeboats are, it seemed to take forever to make it down that hallway. The smoke and the hissing noise and the way the emergency lights were starting to flicker and fail only added to the charm of the experience. We made it eventually, though. I whipped off my helmet and took a second to gratefully drink in the Astra's sweet air -- I don't care what anybody says, the stuff in those pressure suits always tastes stale to me -- and another second to check if the Ibornite was still alive. (It was.) Then I beat feet up to the cockpit. I wanted to get Astra undocked and away from here before there were any more kabooms.
