It wasn't altogether a surprise, of course. With those explosions on the
docked lifeboat, there was always the risk that some damage would have
been done to my own ship. I really wanted to know what had caused those
explosions, since lifeboats don't behave like that for no reason and there
had appeared to be no-one aboard but the Ib. But I didn't have time to
think about it at the moment. Since there had been two explosions there
might well be a third, and I wanted to be well away if and when that
happened.
Examining the status lights, I saw that they were telling me that the hull of the cargo hold had been punctured and that it had depressurised. I knew what that must mean: ten thousand frozen and/or exploded bottles of whisky. I wasn't going to turn a profit on this trip. Most of my comms also appeared to be u/s, but fortunately life support, the engines, the sensors and - perhaps most important of all - the computer, all seemed to be OK. As gently as I could, I attempted to undock from the lifeboat.
