Practicality vs. Ethics

Now, picking up a distress call always represents something of a dilemma for me. After all, the fake distress beacon has always been a favorite pirate trick, and, although it's technically illegal, it's not unheard of for the Space Authority to use it, too, when they're hoping to snare a not-quite-legitimate businessman like myself.

On the other hand... I was making the Fomalhaut run once when the portside reactor blew on me three days in. If a passing 'Hautian freighter with an even shadier reputation than mine hadn't taken a chance and stopped to help, I'd be a charred radioactive cinder right now, and wouldn't be here to engage in this little internal practicality-vs.-ethics debate.

So I vectored the engines towards the coordinates the beacon provided and prayed to the fickle Spacers' God that I was doing the right thing.

  1. As I neared the coordinates...
  2. A few minutes later, though, another message came in...
