The Seeker isn't surprised that Aaron doesn't want them to go. He
remembers
that, in the beginning of the original storyline, Aaron had acted somewhat
condescendingly to Karen. He's even less surprised by Karen's response.
"We're old enough to go with you, Aaron," she says abrubtly. Then she adds, "I... mean... Prince Aaron." "I'm afraid I can't allow it," Aaron says. "The New Amazons are hated throughout Zendara. Unless I can reason with either them or my father, there will almost certainly be a battle. I don't want two children to be hurt." Karen starts to say something, but before she can get it out The Seeker says, "We can fight, Prince Aaron. Our father trained us in combat." Aaron looks at him suspiciously. "Your father? I doubt it, unless he _wanted_ you to join the New Amazons." "He's a blacksmith, and a leader of the village militia," Karen says. "We moved around a lot when we were younger, and he wanted us to know how protect ourselves in case we were ever attacked or separated in the forest." "I see," Aaron says. He thinks this over, then says, "But how _well_ can you fight?" "We can fight well enough to join the New Amazons," Karen says." Aaron looks at her for a moment, then says, "Show me how well you can handle a sword." He draws his own sword and hands it to Karen, then draws a dagger for himself. "Come on. A duel." The Seeker groans. This is getting too strange. "Wait!" he shouts as Aaron and Karen prepare to fight. They both turn to him. He realizes that he really doesn't know what to say. "Uh..." He searches for something. "Aren't you still being chased by those riders?" Aaron looks at him, then puts away his dagger. "You're right. We have to get out of here before they realize their chasing a horse without a rider. Come on. We'll deal with this later." Karen gives Aaron his sword, and they start off down the path. Then they hear a low moan from the bushes. "Stefan!" The Seeker says. "Who?" Aaron says. "He came with us from our village," Karen says. "To join the New Amazons?" Aaron says. "We'll explain later," The Seeker says. "For now we need to help him." "I don't think he'll exactly be sympathetic to our cause," Karen says. "Besides, he can take care of himself out here." "But..." The Seeker protests. "We have to get moving," Karen says.
