Raising False Hopes?

The Seeker decides he'd better start with the immediate issue of the
safety of Alyssa and
Greger. Returning to Karen, he asks: "Do you know if Alyssa has gone back
to the
village?" Karen looks up at him. "Oh, do you think she's alive?" she asks,
hope dawning
in her face. "I'd thought I was the only survivor of the battle. I haven't
seen her
since this morning." Too late, The Seeker
realises that in this distorted (?) reality Alyssa may not have
survived. He hopes he hasn't
raised Karen's hopes without justification. "Um, I just have a feeling
that she may have
done," he says awkwardly.
The Seeker and Karen set off towards the village. On the way, he asks Karen how their father felt about Alyssa and herself going off to join the New Amazons.
