The Seeker's New Role

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20555

The Seeker is now in the body of Mark. (OK, so technically The Seeker hasn't described Mark yet, but he knows how Mark would have been described if he had put in an appearance.) Not realising what a narrow escape he has had from being reincarnated as Alyssa, he continues to examine himself. He's young - about eighteen, average height, slim, quite good- looking. He's not wearing armour; apparently he did not take part in the battle - which is now thankfully over and the field apparently deserted.

Then he sees a slim figure in New Amazon armour emerge from a nearby ditch. He recognises her at once. It's Karen! When she sees him, she rushes over and hugs him. "Oh, Mark," she says. "It was horrible! Our army was massacred. I saw the Princess fall, and I was so frightened that in the end I went and hid in a ditch." Clearly, in this storyline Karen's mind has not been usurped by anyone else's. She goes on: "But what are you doing here? You had no part in the battle." Although The Seeker has no memory problems as far as his own past is concerned, as he has only just taken over Mark's body he has to guess at the answer to her question. "I came looking for you," he says. "That was very brave of you, being unarmed and all," she says, her eyes wide with hero worship.

The Seeker isn't altogether comfortable at finding himself entangled in a love affair with a girl of his own creation. A vague recollection of the Greek myth of Pygmalion crosses his mind. However, that can wait, for Karen next says: "With the rebellion crushed, I suppose we'd better go back to our village." "I'm not so sure that's a good idea," The Seeker says, remembering from the other storyline just how unpopular New Amazons are with the village folk. He wonders just how close a parallel there is between the storylines. If they don't go to the village, will Alyssa languish in jail and Greger be executed? If so, then he faces a dilemma.

Something else is bothering him, too. Who was the male warrior whose body he recently occupied? Could it have been Aaron, in this thread perhaps having arrived in time to take part in the battle? The body of the warrior lies close by. The Seeker looks at its face, trying to avoid looking too closely at the bloody wounds elsewhere on the figure.

  1. It's Aaron.
