Astra and Ardua pushed open the heavy wooden doors. A strange smell, all-together not too unpleasent rolled over them.
The two came to a stone ledge overlooking a wide area.
Astra stopped. The ledge they were on streched out to the right and the left, hitting the far walls and continuing on. It was about a hundred yards above a sea of dark liquid. It was the size of several villages and filled the walls from corner to corner. It actually had waves. Tubes and openings pepperered the walls seemingly at random. Most of them had streams of foul-looking substances which fell to the roiling, bubbling sea below.
The celing, several dozen yards above them, was mostly hidden in shadows. An occasinal pipe sprinkled pink dust into the morass below. It was instantly swallowed up.
"I don't understand." said Astra.
"I do." replied her companion. "It is the same system my hometown uses. The pink stuff keeps the sewage from smelling."
"We're in the dragon's sewer?"
"Most obviously."
"But a dragon his size does not produce this much waste. There must be an entire civilization down here!"
"Look!" said Ardua, pointing. Astra followed her finger. A few yards out from the right wall, half the distance out, was a stone platform. It was about twenty feet wide and had an attached ladder that reached the walkway.
On the platform were Fred and Velus!
-
The two went to Fred and Velus.
-
The two attempted to go to Fred and Velus but the walkway collapsed.
-
A giant creature hurled itself out of the sludge and smacked into Astra. They hurtled back into the corridor.
-
As soon as the two stepped onto the platform, the ladder collapsed.
-
The dragon attacked!
-
The ledge they were on broke apart.
