The Making of a Rough Ride....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19719

Spock raises an eyebrow at that. Probably due to that statement....but I also sort of get the feeling that Uhura is acting more like "Fred" right now in his demeanor and stance....

That speaks, at least to me, that we have a very sharp person here! Sharp and logical, as what I've found most Vulcans to be. The oddity of behavior in Uhura Spock will have to probe later (if their is a later). Oh, I suppose a quick mindmeld would clear it all up for the ever curious science officer, but besides that being not polite by Vulcan customs (doing it without permission), he can't tap that power with the necklace on. It keeps psychic attacks out, but also keeps him from using his own mental powers. Vulcans are touch telepaths, I have learned, but I figure that he's got enough on the ball to know not to remove that necklace.

Do not know if he really believes there is magic out there, but I think he's thinking something along of us having unknown psychic powers that we've mistakenly called magic. Then again, I remember hearing Ragan talking about another universe's Spock actually accepting the idea of magic being out there (re: 18046).

It happens just as we are dropping are rather pathetic magical disguises...

Yes, we've managed to convince him of our sincerity....Nurse Chapel was kind enough to add proof of the mutiny. Almost had us there, but we manage to wrestle her to the ground. The sudden shift from joy to seeing Spock recovered to murderous rage was entirely out of character for the woman, I believe. Enough so that Spock's willing to give us the benefit of the doubt, as it were.

Oh, and we learn that the downed shuttlepilot is now in stable condition from bio readings. One less worry....

What is worrisome, however, is what Spock did get from the entity he struggled against. If we do not get rid of the entity within each of the "possessed" Enterprise women within a week, then it will be too late for them. By that time the entities will have developed enough within their embryonic hosts to connect with each other, forming a hive mind of immense power. That done, the entity will then displace the personalities (the souls) of each mother, implanting themselves within and adding each and every last Enterprise woman as yet another host. Bad enough, that, but here's the real kicker (as some put it).

There is a moral dilemma here that we discovered when we, for safety sake, put a spare "anti-possession" necklace around Uhura's neck, lobotomizing the alien entity trying to still control her through her unborn child. Entity gone, Uhura takes on a strange look....and then begins to whisper and pat her stomach....as if speaking with a baby.

Jarlath, being a touch swifter (having recovered quicker from his headache) than I did, goes and looks at Uhura with his Mage sight....and sees something....rather amazing.

He's not sure, but he says that it appears that the spirit of the embryo-the human spirit and not that alien entity which had created the embryo for possessing Uhura-has regained control of it's own body. That and something akin to what happened to Astra 5 (re: 4287). The child "speaks" not to Uhura's soul with words, but with images and feelings. Twin feelings of utter fear at what happened and...love for his (the embryo is male) mother fills Uhura's heart and the young woman (for that is what Uhura is, despite odd origins) whispers quiet, reassuring words aloud.

It looks odd, but that's what's happening....

Now, here's the problem.

If Uhura's case is typical, then that makes our job just a touch more difficult. Don't know if we could have, but if we could have somehow tapped into the atmospheric controls and flooded the ship with a gas that would have spontanously aborted all the pregnancies. Deprived of hosts, the entities (mental energy based creatures) would be cut off from a physical anchor....trapping them quiet effectively. Well, I am not sure we could have done it, but I am not going to do it now, whatever the case. I will not have some many innocents' deaths on my hands! Tiamat would never forgive me...and I frankly wouldn't forgive myself anyway.

Some question whether spirits and souls are only products of magic or could be found within non-magical realms. That's not my problem right now. I just deal with the situation dealt to me and put aside issues such as "pro-choice" and "anti-abortion" aside as a needless debate. This is the environment I've grown up in and as such the answer to that debate are clear enough to me.

Will calmly discuss the merits of both sides with you later on, but not right now. That and don't expect me to seriously take sides in an argument I have already have answers for.

What we must do now is a bit more difficult, but "doable".

We must somehow get the men free from the brig and armed so we can retake the ship. Our small group couldn't do it just by ourselves from here. Too many women are about.

We need a something to first put them out of sorts then to somehow panic them off this starship. Then, before the women could get back on (if they can), we must get the men out (overpowering any women left aboard even after the distraction).

That or somehow knock them all out....

Spock, knowing the Enterprise, has an idea on part of that problem. There had been this thing with a "planet killer" that will do the thing!

Then, as for the other part falls into both Uhura's and Astra's hands. Uhura, being the skilled woman she is with communications, will work wonders in disrupting ship wide communications, denying the women that asset. Astra, with her skills learned from Military sources, will work her magic.

Later....

After floating the still downed shuttle pilot into the air for "cushioning" from the upcoming rough ride, the heroes set off through tubes and ducts.

Could have used the runabout's transporters to just beam there, but Astra and the others just don't trust the still glitching computer there. Gaining access to the Auxillary bridge, Spock finds while he cannot get control long enough of the ship's helm for regular use....there are other things he can do. Cross patching the warp controls into the impulse engines....

Very rough ride. Akin to riding a "bucking bronco", I believe it could be compared with.

Definitely bruising and unsettling.

Then, with her PDA, with Uhura cutting off vital com links the next phase....

Would you believe a convincing, though false, warp core breach alert? That and an alert to abandon ship? Think that'll shake things up enough for us to move about easier?

Too bad we can't replicate some gas masks and activate that anti- intrusion system. Seems that the "anthizene" gas can be absorbed through the skin, in this universe, as well as breathed.... Need a full spacesuit....and I am afraid they don't make those in my and Andrea's size. That, and I rather doubt the one's available come with room for my and her lovely tail. At least, not the ones I can get to easily (left mine back on the shuttle).

Sigh.

  1. Well, let's see what our opponents next move is as we go onto our next task. Hope that our trick worked....seems that it's causing a lot of panic from the sounds outside, anyway....
