Matter of the mind....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19718

Jarlath

I wonder if it would be possible for us to use our telepathic ability to aid him in that battle?

Still silent, I broach that thought (mentally) with the others.....

Synizn

There are times when I wish here are more hours in the day. That, or I had the sleep requirments of an elf (who never sleep) so I could keep more abreast on things. That way I could have known more about this situation than I did when I came here instead of having to attend to other business on that one day that Betty showed those odd Star Trek: TOS videos. More familiar with the Next Gen stuff....if only for the express purpose of the need to understand one of Terra Prime's more odd "neighbors" (though the research had been entertaining)....

Then again, if I had to do it all over again I'd probably dole out my time the same way I had before. I owe the return of my life to my Fred and Astra and love them and their children as if they were my own. Indeed, being something of a "third parent" as it were rather helped keep my benefactors from being overwhelmed by their twelve children. Servants or no, those beautiful ones are so full of life and energy that they can be a handful at times! Had in the past second thoughts about taking on apprentices because of that, but it all worked out for the best.

Tiamat be praised for the conflict in interest it would be to have to teach those children in the ways of magic. I rather doubt I could maintain the emotional distance needed to be an effective teacher. Oh, being a friend with your pupils (during the years of teaching) is workable, but being a loving parent (which I fear I actually view myself....of sorts)....

Well, that all said I had fun enough teaching Jarlath and Andrea....

They, having seen those odd videos AND that that "talk" with "Uhura", are able to fill me in more on this situation.....

Hmmm.....

Mayhaps I should recap what has been happening in order to make it clearer for those who've come into the middle of all this. We shall first talk of "Uhura" (a name we shall use from now on in regards to him/her for convenience) then of my group.

The one dark skinned woman strapped currently down to a medical couch (or whatever) was a young man named Frederigo D'Honaire from a world much like my now home, Terra Prime. Like many other Freds, he had been tasked by his king to slay a dragon. Like his analogs Triakoth, Amalis, Ia'adoire, and a non-Champion Fred who's still recovering back on Nantucket Earth he was captured by a powerful mage (whether a wyrm or not remains in this case remains unknown) and was turned female. In this case, the captured knight was either transformed into or had his soul transferred into Uhura's body. In either case, the one originally called Uhura is not around to speak for herself and I rather have dark thoughts on what fate she's met. That done, the one we'll call "Uhura" found herself here on this Enterprise, apparently centuries and light years from home! As an aside, this sounds like what the now defunct Oracle would be capable of doing, but that's only a guess. Whatever the case, Uhura had the skills and memories of the former owner of the form she now wore so was able to masquerade as the "real" Lt. Uhura. She (for Uhura is a woman) decided to keep quiet about her dilemma, not sure what she could say to her shipmates.

Uhura was soon to find herself pregnant, but not knowing who the actual father was....considering that whilst she had memories belonging prior owner of the form she wore having dalliances which can lead to such....she had no memories of such recent encounters which could account for the pregnancy! Furthermore she turned out to not be the only woman on the Enterprise with unexplained pregnancy. All the women on this ship were with child AND appeared to have gotten that way at the same time as Uhura had! Even those women who should be physically incapable of pregnancy were with child! It apparently happened (however it had happened) around the time they'd taken leave on some kind of Terra like planet. To make matters even more interesting was the fact that none of the pregnant women wished to have their unexpected pregnancies aborted!

Mr. Spock, the Enterprise's Science Officer/Executive Officer, had been able to look into the matters and find out an interesting parallel connection between this case and a fictional town back on Earth. Seems that in this story (a science fiction story perhaps more worthy of being categorized as horror) that the woman of that village were impregnated by some alien presence. Like some kinds of birds back on that world, the surrogate parents would meet a detrimental fate as the surrogate avian parents who's "real" children had been replaced. The same thing could have been happening here, since the embryos displayed brainwave activity way too early in the pregnancy AND that activity, to a one, was the same with each embryo! Spock would have said more but he collapsed, apparently under some kind of psychic attack that required all his mental efforts to keep out of his mind! Indeed, the Vulcan in question (Spock) is over on another bio-bed as we speak, still out.

Well, despite efforts to get back to the planet to investigate the cause of the pregnancies AND Mr. Spock's collapse, the entity (or entities) apparently responsible for this struck! It started slowly, but soon all the women (except Uhura) were up in arms and in mutiny. The women, apparently long suffered as being marginalized by the males of the ship, took over the Enterprise. The men, except for Spock, got thrown into the brig.

Whatever was controlling the woman (through the embryos, I guess) weren't able to control Uhura. It appears that due to her special....origin....Uhura was able to resist where the regular women succumbed. When Uhura tried to talk some of the mutineers out of taking over the Enterprise, however, she came under immediate suspicion and (after a mind probe to find what the matter was) placed into a secure biobed. What would have come of that probably I'm not exactly sure. My group's sudden arrival and SOS seems to put things off there, however. Jarlath tells me, however, that there is an alien presence lurking still at the edge of Uhura's mind. Worrisome, but not an immediate concern. Whatever the presence really is, it appears that it cannot (as of yet) communicate with it's brethren. Else Uhura's freedom from control would have become apparent much sooner to the mutineers than it had when she'd revealed herself, trying to talk the mutineers down. That can work for us....

Mr. Spock is the immediate concern. Blocking the attack on his mind is the first thing to do. Then we must convince him that we are allies who can help take back the ship from the mutineers.

Then we have to somehow overpower the orderlies....

Then we have to somehow actually take the ship back....

Would not be surprised if whoever (or whatever) is controlling the Enterprise woman

Oh joy....

Sigh....

Then, there is my group's story.

The beginning of a fuller background of the world of Terra Prime (can be found here:

We do manage to get those messages sent out without getting Allaria and Aqualaria into a war with each other, but it wasn't easy. See, we arrive to find that Wallants had been burnt down by those silver eyed golems who'd kidnapped Demifox Fred and Demifox Astra away from their captors. We had to go on a quest down to the next nearest shadowtown able to handle our courier needs. We kept on running into an Aqualarian patrol that was looking for their missing warrior princess. We befriended (and eventually took back) that world's versions of Tarin Gazin and Ke'lan (aka Grailing). A lot of things happened, which finally worked out for the best....but that's a long story.

Anyway, after that, Astra 9 and friends went on a diplomatic journey to the Babylon 5 universe. It was a rather tame, boring trip (for which I okay by me). Though....in the end I was rather anxious to get back. Seems that the "adventure" bug has bitten me as well as the other Champions.

On the way back by a runabout Federation shuttlecraft something went wrong with the engine. The pilot was seriously injured and our engines knocked out. We'd somehow been warped to this universe where magic (a welcome surprise) somehow existed (though the inhabitants didn't seem aware of it....yet).

Our SOS got picked up by this Enterprise and the rest you know...

That said....

First thing first, I dare say. Using a method perhaps unknown (and thus unexpected) by the entity controlling the Enterprise women, I and the other mages can perhaps effectively block Spock's attackers.

While the blocking takes place, the non-mages of the group are going to have to do something about the guards. Fear that until we get an "anti- possession" medallion over Spock's neck that I and the other mages will have our hands full just keeping the mental attacker away from Spock AND us mages! Once that's done, I and the magic users will be able to withdraw back into a safer mental/magical "frequency" that the entity seems unaware of to communicate with the others silently....

Or something...

First thing first, Synizn.

Either this will work....or else were going to be joining this "Kirk" in the brig....if we're lucky enough to not get atomized by the orderlies' phasers!

I believe that it would take a while for our atoms to gather back enough to form our bodies. That would be possible due to us being Champions....but all the same I'd rather not experience being atomized (or disintegrated...as what phasors can do)....

.....

Moments later....

I open my eyes, wincing at the pounding headache behind them.

Astra and Annafrid are standing over the prone forms of the orderlies. From their stance I gather that the two had resorted to fisticuffs instead of anything more elaborate. From the slightly still dazed look one semi- conscious orderly is giving them, it appears that she'd not expected such. Whatever the case, she's not going to do anything now that Astra has one of the confiscated phasors pointed at her....

Guess she got a glancing blow instead of the full brunt of a fist. I remember how hard it is to actually knock out a person if one hasn't been properly trained in that art. Being of Amazon stock and training (even perhaps Annafrid by the looks of it), the orderlies had been put out except for this one.

Well, even the best warrior lasses sometimes can't have it all...

Joan, meanwhile, has pulled a sword from one of the "bags of holding" (as Betty called them) and is cutting the straps holding Uhura down.

"Come with us, sister," Joan whispers to the still surprised Uhura, "There is a ship to take back..."

"What is going on?" says a grave voice behind them, sounding none-the- worse for wear after it's owner's psychic ordeal, "Why am I wearing this odd necklace?"

Ah, while we mage had been able to block the entity and one of the non- magic users slip the necklace over Spock's head, we hadn't been able to tell him what's been going on.

Understandable, I sigh to myself, Wasn't like the fellow could have actually done more than just hold off the entity. Didn't get the chance to discover what was going on whilst he was out....

"Mr. Spock," Uhura says, getting up from the biobed with Joan's assistance, "I fear that we have a 'situation' on our hands which my friends here are helping to remedy. We have a mutiny on our hands by the Enterprise's women and some entity of sorts is controlling their minds....."

  1. Spock raises an eyebrow at that. Probably due to that statement....but I also sort of get the feeling that Uhura is acting more like "Fred" right now in his demeanor and stance....
