Missing?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19099

We've materialized outside a police station in Amsterdam, and I take a moment to look the place over as we pile out of the TARDIS. It looks vaguely familiar, so I'm really hoping it's the correct police station, but, hey, it's been over ten years since I've seen "Arc of Inifinity," and it wasn't among my video collection... So it's hard to be sure. I sigh a little. I would have much rather found the pumping station where Omega had brought his TARDIS... if only we had some idea where it was! All we really know from the TV show (assuming that's even an accurate guide) is that it was an underground pumping station near some kind of graveyard/crypt... and apparently there are more than a few places in Amsterdam that fit that description. Well, if the person we're looking for doesn't show up here, we'll just have to go to Plan B. Whatever that may be. Checking all the pumping stations in Amsterdam, probably. Joy.

"It's possible that we might already have missed him," says the Doctor. "I'll just pop in and ask."

"I'll go with you," I say, eager to get back into some real Doctor Who-style action after our ten-year hiatus.

"Fine," says the Doctor. "The rest of you stay here. We won't be a moment."

We enter the police station, and, in true Doctorish fashion, he simply walks up to the officer on duty and asks if anyone's been in to report a missing tourist by the name of Colin Frazer. (And, boy, did my "sister" and I have to dig around in our memories to come up with that name. Who knew that a knowledge of Doctor Who trivia would ever have so much relevance in my life?)

The officer looks at us suspiciously. "What?"

"Colin Frazer," the Doctor repeats calmly. "A student on holiday from Australia. Has anyone reported him missing?"

"And who are you, exactly?"

"Well, I'm generally known as the Doctor," says the Doctor, "and this is, erm, Mr. Frazer's cousin, Tegan Jovanka." This catches me somewhat by surprise, but I smile and attempt to look as Australian as possible. "We were suppose to meet him yesterday, you see," the Doctor continues smoothly, "but he never showed up, and we were worried that something might have happened to him." He says it with such apparent sincerity and concern that the suspicious looks melts from the man's face and is replaced with one of sympathy.

"I'll just check," the policeman says, and moves to consult some paperwork. "Hmm. No, we don't seem to have a missing persons report on anyone of that name. Do you want to file one?"

  1. Of course, that's the exact moment when Colin's friend shows up to file the report...
