Bluff and Truth Telling

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19197

Of course, that's the exact moment when Colin's friend shows up to file the report...

The Doctor

Oh good lord, Betty sends mentally me as she makes a small gesture towards a young, slightly nervous looking man who'd just stepped in, That's Colin's friend, Robin Stuart! We're early!

Maybe, I say back silently gamely, Maybe not, my dear.

I do what I always do in these kinds of situations (something that I have found that my companions and my wife are also able to do rather well): improvise!

"Pardon us for a moment please," I say quickly to the police officer we'd been chatting with, "I think our luck might have changed for the better."

Turning away before the officer can reply, I turn towards what we believe is Colin's travel companion.

"Excuse me?" I call over to the man in question, "By any chance are you the one my friend's cousin told us of? The chap named Robin Stuart?"

"Uh...yes it is," the man replies, blinking in surprise (and looking as if he's trying to remember ever having met us before), "Do I know you?"

"I'm generally known as the Doctor," I say in a helpful, hopeful manner, "This is Mr. Frazer's cousin, Tegan Jovanka. We had been planning a surprise visit and...."

Moving quickly along before the young man can ask an awkward question in front of the police, I and Betty play the part of concerned friends and family of the missing Frazer what I hope is convincingly. We, by needs, need to depart somewhat from the real Jovanka's nation of origin (saying instead Betty is from a small branch of the family who'd emigrated to America early on) in order to avoid Betty having to speak in an Australian accent. By the way she was acting I believe she was trying to act the part, but while she's an excellent roleplayer....I fear to try to push the envelope.

Don't know how well her accent imitations are and do not really wish to find out right now, all things considered.

Well, it flies well enough to where we don't ruin our own cover, as it were.

Still roleplaying the part, we act disappointed in learning that Colin's isn't with Robin right now and then act (not really a stretch) concerned about the fact that Robin was going to do the very thing we were looking on having to do before getting interrupted (i.e. filing a missing person report).

That said, we then go in with Robin to give support and details with the police after Robin gives his accounting of things. It goes a bit....vague on the "whats" and "whys", I gather from the looks that the policeman gives him as he exits. We give the police a likely story of our part in things: family and friends on a surprise visit and when not getting met at the airport and every contact attempt failing.....going to the police.

Sounding doubtful despite all that, they at least say they'll look into matters but don't make any promises. Best we can look to all considered. Not that I really expect much luck in them finding Colin's, if life is following Betty's TV show...

Soon we exit the police station, and my friends are outside of the TARDIS (the elves in magical disguise, of course). They (those who have them) either look like their human "brothers" (in Gilmuriel's case), or "sisters" (in E'eysha's case). As for Elrondir and B'elanna, they've adopted human seemings that are basically themselves done up as humans, if you catch my meaning.

We introduce ourselves as part of a small group of tourists (with me as a guide), with a theme going on (a slightly anachronistic flair for the tourist trip, as you will). Being that this city has had a recent rash of oddities like English double decker buses being imported for the tourist industry, as I know to be true for this time period and this area, that seems plausible enough. Indeed, that is in large part why my TARDIS (still in it's blue Police Box configuration) doesn't draw more attention than a curious glance.

"Please," Elrondir suggests in a reasonable tone of voice, "Let's go over to the café over there and discuss things before we have problems, okay? Goodness knows that the world is in a terrible mess because people just won't stop long enough to help their fellow man! Let us help you by first listening and then perhaps....more."

"That...would be nice," Robin says after a few seconds.

Going over, we order some cups of tea and coffee and sit a few minute in silence as Robin gathers himself to speak.

"You're not really Colin's cousin, are you?" Robin finally says, looking over at Ragan.

That's what Im' almost expecting him to say when he begins to speak! Not that I have a fear of something going terrible wrong in this part of the matter, but after my first encounter with the denizen's of Terra Prime, I tend to not take things too much for granted concerning the people of my mother's side of the family anymore, as it were. First time in all my years that I my companions ever got strip searched. (re: 8158)...

Well, I don't hold grudges on that matter, considering that business with their version of the Twins of Doom prophecies and what it meant for them. Could have been much worse....

Guess there is such a thing as luck. Goodness knows I sure "lucked out" when Rassilon went and fixed my TARDIS for a wedding gift. Would have been long month, at least, trying to fix it by my and my companion's selves....

That aside, Robin begins by saying that we will probably think him mad for this tale of his, but he shall tell it anyway.

  1. Considering the reality of the group around him, I doubt it....especially since we know something about it already....
