Andrea Surveys Her Surroundings

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19059

Andrea stared at the gruesome scene in front of her. Bodies lay littered everywhere, most with burns all over their bodies. The release of energy must have been quite powerful, to kill all these people and transport them and her all the way to wherever this was.

Fido whinnied. At least there was something familiar in this barren, scorched wasteland. Andrea, at the edge of the circle of carnage, prodded the horse around the area, surveying the extensive damage the magic's release had caused. Perhaps there had been so much that the castle had been destroyed as well.

As Andrea guided Fido around the circle, she found she was constantly steering him too hard. Her arms did, indeed, feel stronger. Her legs, too, and her chest and back. Lady Andrea had always been somewhat of a frail girl, but now she looked and felt different. Had the magic killed those closer to the source but merely changed her? And if so, what were the extent of her changes?

Her clothes felt a little tighter, but she explained that with the sudden addition of muscle mass. Her headache she attributed to the intense light flash she had seen. Her senses seemed no different than before; if anything, her eyesight was slightly worse. Still, there was something she couldn't put her finger on, some other way she had been changed.

Andrea dismounted and spent several minutes collecting anything she could from the dead bodies. She felt a little like a grave robber, but these people weren't going to use anything anymore. After almost an hour's worth of scavenging she came away with a pouch in which she placed the eighty-six gold coins she found, two sturdy daggers, a few packets of food, four potions she was pretty sure would give her extra energy when she needed it, and a spare pair of boots that fit rather well. She left the myriad magic staves and wands behind.

Still there was no sign of any other human presence. Surely someone had seen the blast?

  1. Yes. Andrea notices someone coming to investigate.
  2. Apparently not, or at least no one had taken notice. She sets off in an arbitrary direction looking for a village.
