Two days had passed and Frederica finally made it to Nugget. The walls of
this fort-town were made of stone in some parts and timbers in other
places. Frederica couldn't help but think it more a shack than a fort,
what with her past visits to Caemlyn and Bannock and Qwynn and Penn.
"Halt!" said a voice from the gate. "Who goes th-- Oh, a little mining girl, come on in..." The guard held little respect for her, but after living with the miners she understood. They were nice people in one way, but grumpy was their middle name! She was glad that she didn't have to explain to the guard who she was, she wanted to save that for the fieflord. Lord Damian Thatcher sat in his empty hall. He sat here often, and it was empty just as often. Then, something unexpected happened: he recieved a visitor! She was young and pretty, she looked like a coal miner's daughter but she said something quite to the contrary. "You are King Emry's daughter??? And you claim to be called Frederica?" "Yes!" she said defiantly, knowing that trying to prove her tale would not be easy. "I was abducted by the Dragon on my twelfth birthday, [15902] but have now been freed by the gallant Lord Fred of Suffex." Lord Damian looked at her with wide eyes. "Abducted when you were twelve??? Now I know you're a nut! The King's daughter is called Cecilia and she disappeared when she was sixteen years old!" [8809] "What? But that's not right... no, I am my father's daughter! I... but I remember that... oh no...." What's this???? Is this Frederica? Is this Cecilia? Is she now 17 or 21? Was Belboz telling lies, or was he just confused on some of the details? What about our heroine's own memories? Why is she so confused? A side effect of being under a massive spell for five years? or is she still under some kind of machination by the dastardly Crucius???
