Betty-2 supposed that it made sense for the Master and the Rani not to try
to stop her. The Doctor had no way of knowing that she
had escaped, and the two Timelords must have decided that before she could
contact him he would have already completed his mission. A moment later,
the Rani's TARDIS dematerialised. So here she was, stuck in the middle of
nowhere.
Betty made her way to the road, and started walking along it, having chosen a direction at random. Sooner or later, the road should bring her to a settlement, but she knew that this might take many hours, or even days. She hoped that a vehicle might come along and give her a lift, but judging by the road's poor condition it was little used.
