Actually, she still appeared to be in the midst of a desert, though
admittedly not the one she had left, and, judging from the vegetation, she
was reasonably sure that she was still somewhere in the American Southwest,
quite probably even still in New Mexico, though it was hard to be sure
about that. A narrow, pothole-riddled road cut across the landscape, and a
few cattle were visible in the distance, but otherwise there was no sign of
human presence... The small, wooden shack that was the Rani's
chameleon-circuited TARDIS stood out quite prominently on the flat,
featureless plain. There were mountains far off in the distance, but Betty
knew they were surely farther off than they looked, and they looked
far. There didn't, unfortunately, appear to be much of anywhere to run to.
