Betty-2 Makes a Run For It

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 18486

Neither the Master nor the Rani was accustomed to having to intervene physically in a situation. Advanced technology or pure force of will normally sufficed to get them what they wanted. Thus they were surprisingly ineffectual when it came to trying to intercept Betty-2 before she could escape. As Betty-2 exited the TARDIS she heard a despairing "You will obey me" from the Master, but Betty wasn't looking in her direction and furthermore her voice lacked the hypnotic timbre of old, so it had no effect.

Wanting to get as far away from the Rani's TARDIS as possible as quickly as possible - who knew what weapons she might have stashed away in there? - Betty-2 put the longer legs of the body she had acquired in such unusual circumstances to good use. It wasn't until she was a hundred yards away from the TARDIS that she started to take in her surroundings, so hard had she been concentrating on escape.

  1. She thought she recognised her surroundings. This looked like Central Park. Behind her, the Rani's TARDIS was disguised as a park-keeper's hut.
  2. She didn't recognise her surroundings, though at least she seemed to be somewhere on Earth.
  3. The distinctly bluish tinge of the sunlight was a worry, as was the thinness of the air, especially given her exertions.
  4. It wasn't so much a case of where she was as one of when she was.
