The night was dark and most of the company was asleep. Only one of the
soldiers held watch over our Lord Frederigo and Old Alfred. Although the two prisoner had conferred long and hard about how to escape they had still not come up with a working plan. As they were now only one more days travel from Zular's castle they had almost given up all hope. Things however were about to take an unexpected turn. The sentry didn't hear the slightest sound, when strong arms suddenly gripped him from behind. He didn't have a chance to struggle before his neck was brocken with a snap that echoed in the silent forest. Both Fred and Alfredo, who had been lying awake, sat up in alarm at the sound. They saw maybe twenty dark clad men sneaking into the campsite. The rest of the soldiers swiftly were murdered in their sleep by soundless daggers. Next one off the men came over and cut the ropes that bound Fred and Alfredo. Then he stood back grinning, as Fred and Alfredo got to their feet. He was dressed all in black, with a wide-brimmed hat and a mask hiding most of his face. "Thank you for freeing us, sir" Fred said. "Although I do not know you identity or your intent." "Oh, my intent is only the best of Allaria," the man said with a grin, "as to my identity." He reached up and removed the mask from his face. "Velus!" Fred said startled when he recognized the teen.
