After a long and hard day they were happy to at last get some rest at
least.
When the sun set they lay down in the grass with Velus curled up between
them. Gazing up at the stars Fred felt sleep slowly overcoming him.
Suddenly he found himself in a cold and alien place. He couldn't see
anything, yet he somehow perceived his surroundings to be a cold, empty
dungeon.
He couldn't move, yet he felt no restraints on his body. In fact, he
couldn't feel his body at all.
He felt cold panic beginning to creep over him. It had to be a dream, yet
it was too real to be a dream.
Desperately he struggled to move, but he had no arms or legs to move. He
couldn't even open his non-existent eyelids, or draw even the tiniest
breath without lungs.
He felt himself nearing hysteria, struggling and struggling, until at last
he sat up in the grass, drenched in sweat. A full moon shone down on him
and he could hear the wind howling around the mountain.
"Bad dream?" Fred turned to se Astra sitting awake, hugging her knees. He
nodded silently.
"Me too," said Astra, "I couldn't go to sleep again so I thought I'd keep
watch."
"I think I'll join you," said Fred and sat beside her. By their feet Velus
slept peacefully, occasionally twitching a paw slightly.
