Fred hesitated, but couldn't see any way out of the situation the dragon
had placed her in. With a distasteful look at the goblet, she sighed,
"Very well, Dragon - you guarantee my sister will remain unharmed?" "Oh, absolutely, dear Captain Fred. Obey me, and she will never be any safer." Fred scrunched up her nose and hurriedly, as if doing so quickly made it somehow less real, drained the goblet. The blood was warm and salty, with a metallic taste to it - but to Fred's surprise, it was not as stomach turning as she had feared. The voice rose in laughter. "Excellent! Now come, Captain - we must introduce you to your troops!" Part of the wall swung outward, forming a door. "This way, if you please." Fred walked through the door without hesitation, determined to face whatever the dragon had in store for her with her head held high. She walked a few yards through a stone tunnel. There was a light ahead to guide her - along with the sounds of steel scraping on rock, and hissing, sibilant voices. Finally, she emerged into a large cavern. The sight inside was both impressive and sobering. There were close to a hundred dragon women - some sleeping, some eating (and what they were eating didn't bear too close an inspection), but many of them engaged in swordplay, either mock or real, both on the ground or swooping through the air. Suddenly, one of them noticed Fred. "A hhhhhuman!" she screeched. The dragon woman grabbed her sword and flew straight for Fred. In an instant, Fred drew her sword and knocked the warrior's from her hands as soon as she was close enough. A quick double thrust with the hilt had the dragon woman on the ground in seconds, and Fred savagely stepped on her snout to render her firebreath useless. The swordpoint hovered a bare inch above the base of the stunned warrior's skull. "Anyone else want to try?" Fred challenged. Again, the cavern rung with the dragon's laughter, only now it was a laugh of triumph and delight. "Excellent, excellent - I knew I chose you well!" Then, turning serious, the dragon went on. "Attention, my loyal followers!" he announced. "The woman you see before you is Fred - she is now the Captain of the Defenders of the Holy Dragon! She will lead and train you, that you may better serve me! Obey her as you would me - or suffer the consequences!"
