The Princess Hates a Mystery

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 18181

Frederica looked around the hut, but other than the dress-clad remains, lying on the floor, it was deserted. There was nothing to give any indication of who the skeletons used to be, or how they got there, or that would explain the mystery they presented. Finally, with a sigh, the princess decided the answer must lie in one of the other huts.

The next three huts she checked were completely empty, and Frederica's unease was slowly turning to frustration. It makes no sense! she thought to herself. Why would someone set all this up out here? Wherever 'out here' happens to be! There has to be a reasonable explanation for it!

With a shake of her head, she entered the final hut - and stopped and gasped in surprise. It was obviously lived in, mainly because the occupant was there.

He was a tall, skinny man, with a bushy black beard and long hair. His clothes, though old, were well cared for, and there was plenty of food stacked in the corner. He was well involved in reading something, and didn't hear Frederica's entrance until a soft "Oh my!" escaped her lips.

  1. He looked at her with a wild, faraway expression. "At last!" he exclaimed, "My third and final bride has arrived!"
  2. He jumped up, brandishing a long knife. "Who are you?!" he screamed angrily. "How dare you violate the sacred grounds thus!?!"
  3. He glanced up with a wry expression. "Ah, I wondered when you'd find me. Tell me, are you the magic weilder, or is it your stone friend on the beach?"
  4. He raced forward and embraced her. "At last! I'm rescued from this evil island!"
  5. He merely glanced up, raised an eyebrow, and then went back to reading.
  6. He screamed in terror and fled through a second door in the back of the hut.
