"Well, three bright girls like us shouldn't have any difficulty in finding temporary work," Sigourney said. "It shouldn't take us long to raise enough for our fare."

"Er, what sort of work did you have in mind?" Thelma asked. "I can guess which job pays best in a port, and it's not a job I am prepared to do."

Sigourney blushed. "No, of course not," she said. "I was thinking we could maybe become barmaids, or work in a laundry, or something like that."

"All right, then. Hofargh it is," Thelma said, and Louise nodded her agreement.

A few hours later, they were entering the busy port. Before long they saw:

1. An inn with a sign in its window saying that bar staff were required.
2. A nondescript building with a sign outside saying that young female workers were required. Louise was suspicious.
3. A travelling circus, which had set itself up in a field beside the road.
4. The sea ahead of them.
