Despite her misgivings, Louise was exhausted by the day's events and the
sound of her "sister" Thelma's gentle snores were quite soothing. Before
long, she was making identical snoring sounds.
"Hey, Louise. Wake up." Louise blinked twice, then sat up. "Huh?" Thelma was prodding her. "Come on, it's morning already." "Is it?" She sat up, then gingerly pulled the curtain back. Sunlight crept into the room. "I - I guess it is." "And look, we're all still here," Sigourney said, sticking her head around the corner, "Safe and sound." Louise smiled sheepishly. "Okay, I suppose I was a bit jumpy last night. Sorry." The three women went down to the well-appointed kitchen, where Yorga sat waiting for them, shades drawn and candles lit. "Well, my dears," he said with a smile, "I hope you had a restful night's sleep." "We did," Louise said with a smile. "In fact, I think I owe you an apology, Count." He shook his head. "Think nothing of it - I realize mortals fear my kind - in some cases, not unreasonably. But you'll find that most of us are as civilzed as any other person." The four of them had a leisurely breakfast, after which the Count provided them with a pack of provisions to supplement their own. "Say, Yorga," Thelma asked, "Where does this path outside lead, anyway?" "Follow it past the inn to the end, and it splits into a crossroad. The left fork goes to the port city of Hofargh, while the right goes all the way to the kingdom of Oobat. A much nicer place than Hofargh, but much further away." "Thanks," said Sigourney, "That helps." The three of them gratefully hugged the Count (though each declined a kiss) and waited until Yorga was back in his coffin, sealed away from the sun. "So," Louise said as they headed for the door, "What now, sisters?"
