For some reason Fred felt compelled to leave Cederik's room by way of the
window
and a nearby tree, rather than simply going back down the stairs. Still,
at least
for the moment he no longer felt under a compulsion to sing.
A man happened to be standing in the yard of the inn. He watched curiously as Fred shinned down the tree. Once safely on terra firma, Fred spoke to him: "I'm looking for a ranger." "Well, you've found one. I'm the Lone Ranger." The man wasn't wearing a black mask, but he did look vaguely rangerish, Fred thought. The man went on: "How much did you want to borrow?" "Huh?" Fred said. "You said you wanted an arranger, and as I said I'm the local loan arranger. Now tell me, how much do you need? My terms are very reasonable."
