Even as he was going up to their rooms, a little girl (who just happened
to be staying at
the inn) motioned Fred aside. Thinking that the girl was going to ask for
the
"Dragon-Slayer's" autograph he was shocked when, in her wee little girl
voice she
whispered one word: "Sing."
"Sing" is not just any ordinary word, but a magical word. Fred could almost hear the chimes of an organ and the strings of a violin as the wee girl skipped down the stairs leaving him alone as he walked upwards. A slight skip entered his own step as he began to uncontrollably sing out his thoughts (sung to the tune of "Going through the Motions"). "Every single day they call my name, 'Fred,' / I go out to fight the fight / yet now that the Southern Dragon lies dead / nothing seems that real, nothing seems aright. Here I am in mudsville without my friends doesn't that just show / that I am back to where I started / walking all alone / will I ever find my way back h-o-o- o-me?" A few heads popped out of some doorways as people began to stare at the singing knight. "I was always brave and kind of righteous / now I think I'm seeing things / Hunting men or monkeys, teen dogs, princess / long lost brother King" A man down the hall sang out, "Can it be the King?!?" "What of our dear Queen?" answered Fred. Three men and a chambermaid skitted onto the hall and began dancing while singing to Fred's dilema! "He does pretty well with grand ole lizards / now his friends are gone / and he just doesn't know what to do / or where he could go / so he's going back to their rooms no-o-o-o-o-w!" "Will I find them waiting, smiling? / or just empty beds beguiling?" The dancers interrupted, "Can we eat your--" Fred took control, "Stop, I'm trying / to figure this o-o-o-o-ut! Stuck with no ideas, trapped within a trap / are my friends in danger? / should I pay a ranger? / all I think I need... is... my... ma-a-a-a-a-a-p!" Even as he came to a thundering conclusion he entered Cederik's room and shut the door. "That was wierd," said the chambermaid.
