A Secret Passage

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 16829

Fred dressed in her absence and walked back to his bedroom. That was close. He could not let himself fall for such a cheap strumpet, attractive as she was. He sat on the bed and examined his surroundings. All was as he left it except a statuette of a deer on the bookshelf had fallen over. Fred rose and set the deer upright once more. He then noticed a very narrow gap between the bookshelf and the rest of the wall. It was the type of gap most any other person would ignore. But Fred was curious. The wooden bookshelf was set back in the wall by about a foot.

Fred pressed on the bookshelf and felt it budge ever so slightly. Clearly, this was a secret passage. In a minute, Fred had found the secret lever, had opened the doorway. His curiosity compelled him forward. He grabbed a candle and went down the staircase. About a floor down, he found a landing with another staircase leading up and a ladder going further down into the darkness. He heard faint voices, but did not know from where they came.

  1. Fred returns to his room.
  2. Fred ventures down the ladder.
  3. Fred goes up the second staircase.
