A Way Out?

"Not that I know of, and I've been looking for one for years," you say. "And even if there were, we'd hit a dead end after a while."

"Where exactly is this?" asks the Doctor.

"This is Game 2," says Betty. "It's sort of a fictional reality space, I guess. It's also sort of an internet site in my world, an interactive story. I wrote some episodes for it."

"Hmmm," says the Doctor. "So you're an 'author?" You have some sort of control over this reality?"

"I used to, yes, before the game shut down. Still seems odd thinking of it as a real place, but after writing and reading so many metafictional episodes, maybe I shouldn't be surprised."

"Can you possibly form an exit out of here?"

"Well, I can try," says Betty. She closes her eyes and concentrates with all her might. Gradually, something starts to appear in the center of the room.
