The Never Ending Quest - Episode 16317

From the Elementals Universe:

From the "Fred in the Jungle" thread

Frederigo D'Honaire:

In the year 1501 AD, Lord Frederigo D'Honaire was sent out to kill the Dragon of the Southern Caves. Falling into an underground current, he was swept away to the land of Aqualaria. There, he found the Petrasyph of that universe. (Every analog universe in the Elemental universe has a Petrasyph, to help maintain the stability of the individual analog universes. All are connected to the Great Petrasyph that lies in the universe containing the Dark Tower.) He was captured by the Aqualarian Amazons, led by Queen Astra. Normally, they would have made short work of any man to set foot in their territory, but since Fred was the chosen Bearer of the Petrasyph, Astra let him live. (Much to the anger of some in her kingdom.) Fred was kept as a prisoner, and was about to go on the Test to see if his prescence here was truly the will of the Elementals, but was pulled out of time before the test was begun.

Queen Astra

Astra is Queen of the Amazons of Aqualaria. She is of the highest class of her people, the immortal warriors known as the Atha'den. The Elementals are worshiped as Gods by their people (unlike the Rules and Agents, who kept a low profile, the Elementals like to be worshipped as Gods by the people they protect.) The Atha'den, made incapable of dying of natural causes by the Elementals, will remain that way as long as they do not fall in love, which is considered the ultimate sin of their people. (It is possible for an Atha'den to die in battle, though) For an Atha'den, battle brings pleasure as intense as sexual pleasure is for others, so there is no need for them to seek it outside of the appointed time for reproduction.

Astra became Queen of her people after her predecessor died in a disasterous campaign against Malboncton. At a time when her people were threatened by the evil sorcerors Zerm the Second and Myrddin L'Ami, Fred appeared out of nowhere carrying the Petrasyph. Against the wishes of many of her people, Astra chose to let him live.

Queen Astra is a commanding prescence and a powerful military strategist. She is understandably quite different from many of her analogs, but she still has the same basic personality, even having a bit more compassion than most of her people.

From the "Cardassi/Mind Meld" thread:

Lord Frederigo D'Honaire:

Centuries ago in this universe, an invasion took place. The Cardassii, living war machines of the Book maker's enemies, were sent in to take this analog universe, and eventually take the universe that contained the Dark Tower. They were stopped by the Elementals, but could not be destroyed. The Elementals imprisoned them in the volcano of Karator, where they rested for centuries, until agents of their masters freed them in the year 1501 AD. (The Elementals also fashioned this incident into a creation myth to maintain control of the Aqualarians, claiming that it was the sin of the first man that brought the Cardassii into the world.)

His family having been dragon-slayers for seven generations, Frederigo D'Honaire was the logical choice to be sent when the Dragon of the Southern Caves began to ravage the lands of Allaria. In the caves, he encountered Velus, and rescued Astra. However, they did not get along very well, due to Astra's arrogance and bitterness. They eventually encountered a mysterious group of skeletal scribes, who presented a scroll to Fred. It turned out that Fred was the Chosen One of the Elementals, destined to defeat the Cardassii. Setting out from the caves with Astra, they found their minds mysteriously linked. They could now hear each others thoughts. This was apparently the work of the Elementals, although why they did this was unclear.

Princess Thessamar'ixlatl (Astra) of Aqualaria:

In this world, although the division between men and women is not as strong as in the Aqualaria of the "Fred in the Jungle" thread, men are still more or less subservient in the way that women are in most societies at the time.

The eldest daughter of the Queen of Aqualaria, Astra was to suceed her mother as Queen. At 17, she was already a strikingly beautiful young woman, brave, kindhearted, quickwitted, determined, and resourceful. She had had many lovers, but had yet to meet someone she truly loved. Then, she met Sir John Hall.

Sir John was the son of the Allarian ambassador to Aqualaria, Lord Anthony Michael Hall. He seemed the perfect man. He was different than any man she'd met before, kind and noble, independant and brave, seeking her out rather than letting himself be sought out. He also dabbled in magic, which although it was considered wrong for a warrior in any society, made him all the more intriguing to Astra. She was similarly intriguing to him, and as they got to know each other better, they fell strongly in love. They chose to marry, shocking the rulers of both nations. Under the arrangement ultimately worked out, although any children they had would be considered of noble blood in the Great Kingdom, they would have no claim to the throne of Aqualaria. But this did not concern Astra, who was more interested in being with the man she loved and having adventures than in gaining political power.

But soon, things changed. Sir John became increasingly interested in magic, and began to ignore Astra. And he became involved in darker and darker magic. When Astra confronted him about this, he turned on her and placed a curse so that if she ever put clothes on, she would die.

Astra left John and began to travel around Aqualaria battling evil. Her divorce from John had left her with a bitter anger and she felt herself to be superior to all men, especially Allarians. Going to the Dragon's caves to kill it, she was captured by the Dragon's minions and chained to a wall. She was rescued by Fred, but none too pleased with it. Soon, however, she and Fred encountered the skeletal scribes, and she found that he was the Chosen One. Soon after they left the caves and headed to Aqualaria, she and Fred found their minds mysteriously linked, and they were transported to the Pyramid.

Astra has nothing but contempt for Fred, but still recognizes that he is a useful ally. She is still a great warrior, brave, determined, quickwitted, and resourceful.
