Torrance Blood was a man large in every way except one: his brain. He
was not a foolish man. He had learned street smarts by the school of hard
knocks. But he was stupid, and that stupidity made him key in every foul
plan of every villain within the realm. His stupidity made him obey
orders fastidiously, and his size made his fists lethal. Torrance lumbered through the gate carrying a 100 pound sack of potatoes. The guards dutifully stopped and searched the seven-foot giant, but found nothing. Torrance proceeded to the kitchen where he deposited the bag with the kitchen master. Agnew the Slim, the right-hand man of Chester Grange, approached Torrance. Agnew kept the books for Croix Keep, but his loyalties were to Grange. He took a coin from his pocket and put it in Torrance's over-sized hand. "That's a gold coin, Torrance," said Agnew. Torrance nodded. "Remember that time you eliminated that spy for the kingdom and received five gold coins for our gratitude?" Torrance nodded. He remembered the Count someone or rather. "This is much worse," explained Agnew. "A traitor has been discovered in the palace, someone who intends to take the king's life and make herself queen." Agnew paused for effect. "She is Andrea, daughter of the king. She must be killed, but quietly. She is a liar, and can never be believed. For her life, you will receive 20 gold. She is on her way to meet fellow traitors. Go to the main crossroads east of town. An agent will meet you and direct you which way her carriage went." Torrance nodded slowly and walked away. This was twice the payment for a high-level hit. He was sad that Andrea was a traitor, but knew now that she must die. In a window high above Chester observed the conversation between Agnew and Torrance. He knew that Andrea intended to deal with him, and had finally found his opportunity to deal with her. When she was gone someone of his liking would be placed on the throne--someone who could find his services more useful. He smirked as he watched the fool walk away to the east.
