Fred Learns About Ghosts

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 16116

"...you are here because you have not yet crossed over to the other side. You are still held to this world by a spiritual chain. The only way for your soul to rest in peace is for you to sever that chain." Fred stared at Qundarian as the old man stopped after this brief explanation. "What if I don't want to cross over?" Fred asked of the old man. "What if I want to return to the living?" "You're dead," Qundarian explained calmly. "There is no way else to go, except forward. Ye cannot go back." Fred cursed his luck, as he had been doing constantly since his episode with the snakes and consequent paralysis, back when he was still alive. "Your best bet is to break the chain," Qundarian told him. "What must I do to break the chain, should I care to do so?" Fred asked irritably, and Qundarian shrugged in response. "Ye have a purpose; there is a reason that you have not yet completely passed on. It may be that you have to extract revenge on the one that did this to you, or that you must complete your quest and defeat the Dragon. I would not know." "How can I do it in this form?" Fred asked, as Qundarian took a seat on a nearby rock that was large enough to acommodate him. "You have no physical contact with the world of the living," Qundarian told him, "but you can still communicate and accomplish feats, through your mind. It will take some time, but you will learn...communication has already been established between us, albeit with a great deal of effort on my part to establish it. You see, I sensed your spiritual presence as soon as you entered earlier." Fred waited patiently as the old man stopped to take a deep breath, then continued. "But you're cursed in this form as well," Qundarian explained, "for every day that you remain a ghost, you will be visited by a terrible experience...a realistic vision, a nightmare if you will...and you will be forced to relive the final moments of your death, as though it were happening all over again." Fred's stomach would have lurched, had he still been a living being. "And what time is it now?" Fred asked Qundarian slowly.

  1. "It is mid-day," Qundarian tells Fred to his relief.
  2. "Midnight is drawing near as we speak," Qundarian tells Fred, an ominous note hanging in the air.
