Time for a Rest

As they ate, Fred asked: "Have any of you any idea which way we should go from here? I had the nasty feeling that we were being led in circles." YThe other three all shook their heads. "Then I suppose we may as well investigate the passage from which the light is coming. It looks like firelight." "Yes, that seems better than either going down the dark tunnel that the old man took or retracing our steps," Astra agreed. So when they had finished their meal and had a brief rest, that was the direction they took.

1. But just as they took their first steps into the passage, the light abruptly went out.
2. They soon came to what seemed to be someone's campfire, but there was no sign of anyone.
3. Arriving at the fire, who should they find sitting a short distance away from it but the old man! How had he got there?
