The old man seemed harmless enough, if rather eccentric. Fred had
learnt from experience, though, that it could be unwise to take people at
face value.
"Who are you?" he asked. "And what are you doing in these tunnels?" "You
are the
suspicious one, and no mistake. Well, I suppose it's understandable in the
circumstances."
The old man fell silent, showing no sign that he would answer Fred's questions. Astra decided that she might as well try a question of her own. "These tunnels seem to have changed recently. Can you throw any light on that?" "Tis probably the Dragon's doing, fair lassie. Those who go somewhere without his consent can find leaving again unexpectedly difficult." "But you seem to be able to find your way around in spite of the changes. I don't suppose that you could guide us to the exit? Please?"
