Three to go to Vala

He went on: "We explained to Stacy some time ago that it would be too dangerous to take her into the war zone, which is where this ship will be going next. However, we have no information about Stacy's brother as yet, and it would be difficult to get news quickly to Stacy if she returned to Earth. Therefore I suggest that the three of you should return to the survey ship, together with the small crew that we will be putting on board. That crew will be returning the ship to our home planet, Vala, so its data can be thoroughly analysed. I am sure that the chance to discuss Earth with three of its native inhabitants would be very valuable for our scientists. And if you are on Vala it will be easy to pass on any news of Stacy's brother. More general information on the progress of the war will of course be dominating our news media."

All three of them were happy to agree to that. They returned to the survey ship, together with its new crew.

1. Then they entered the cryosleep pods to pass the several weeks that the journey would take.
2. The survey ship - being a relatively small vessel - did not have cryosleep facilities.
