Well, she's a panther....What did you expect?!

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1555

The black panther stirs, opens her eyes, and gives off a rumbling growl as her nose tells her what her eyes are relaying to her feline mind. Her kind's racial enemy, an enemy since the dawn of time, is before her! A member of the canine clan stands before her.

All traces of Astra are deeply submerged under the feline instincts of this new body. Astra is not in control, the Huntress is! The Huntress pounces forward and rips into the damn dog in front of her, literally ready to tear this obscenity apart!

Velus screams....actually SCREAMS as the panther's large claws tear into his small body. Fred shouts in surprise at the speed and ferocity of the attack. Putting aside any misdoubts about the glyphs on the large cat's body, Fred gives off his battle cry and attempts to save the life of his faithful cannine friend.

The blow that lands on the back of the Huntress' back brings out a high pitched, angry scream from the enraged panther. However, the curse that has changed Astra into this form, also protects the victim from bodily harm from mundane attacks. Only magical attacks and silvered weaponry (due to some sort of mystical connection between silver and the power of the Moon) can harm the victim of this curse! The pain of the attack does, however, draw the attention of the panther away from Vellus and towards the attacker, Lord Frederigo.

A lopsided battle ensues and it is only pure luck that Fred lands a blow that causes the enraged cat to run away, whining. Frederigo's sword has smashed the Huntress' sensitive nose, bringing immense pain! The only thing that the panther can do is run away to recover and regroup.

Fred pants and limps over to the whimpering form of Vellus, and then freezes.

Fred remembers the legends of creatures just like that accursed panther . . . . creatures not harmed by good, honest steel. He remembered, as a young boy, having a fascinating talk with the court wizard about this. The mage had revealed that the curse was much like a viral disease, in a sense. It was very much like a living plague in the way it spreads. A man wounded by tooth or claw and LIVES has a chance of joining the ranks of the the acursed, doomed to become a beast when the light of the full Moon shines upon them. The curse seemed to procreate and spread by "infecting" others. It gave the host protection to a certain extent, preventing the hosts death by mundane means (only by extreme measures could death come to the cursed host). Tooth and claw.....

Fred looks down and sees.....

  1. Nothing....if he and/or Vellus are infected, then the sigil won't show up for three days....the "incubation" period.
  2. Vellus has the sigil on him....
  3. Fred has the sigil on him....
  4. Something else.
