The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1168

Astra had taken on the form of a cat. Not a domestic tabby, however, but a powerful black panther six feet long (though over eighteen inches of that was tail). As luck would have it, Fred and Velus, still wandering round the caverns, found her whilst she was still briefly unconscious following the change. Velus's hackles rose (he was still in the form of a dog), and his dog instincts would have caused him to attack Astra, but Fred restrained him. "Look," he said, pointing. On Astra's forelegs, there were strange marks where her black hair appeared to be discoloured. "Those look like arcane glyphs of some sort," Fred said. "This is no ordinary panther."

At that moment Astra regained consciousness.

  1. She found that she could still speak, though her changed vocal equipment made it hard for her to be understood.
  2. She tried to speak, but only a growl emerged.
  3. Her rational mind completely submerged beneath her feline instincts, Astra sprang at Velus.
