Engine Trouble

"Something's wrong," said Stacy, raising her own voice to carry over the shrill buzzing sound. "That's got to be an alarm..." Frantically, Stacy scanned over the readouts on the instrument panel before her. She was somewhat relieved to realize that the displays did make sense to her, but that emotion faded rapidly when she realized just what it was they were telling her.

"Paula! There's something wrong with the engines! They must have been damaged in the conflict, or by the science teams... I don't know. But I don't think we're going to be able to make orbit!"

"But we've already lifted off," said Paula. "I felt it. Oh, my God. Does that mean we're going to crash?"

"It sure looks that way to me," said Stacy glumly.

"Well, can you fix it?"

Stacy was silent for a moment, as she concentrated on accessing the information the aliens had planted in her mind.

1. "I... I think so," she said at last.
2. "No... No, they only programmed me with instructions on how to fly the thing!"
3. "Perhaps I can help," said Dr. Burke, who had apparently woken up in time to catch the end of this conversation.
