The Rani grinned at him nastily. "That's right," she said. "An endless morphogenic twisting of cells not designed to handle it. I suspect it would be exceedingly painful. And once started, likely to continue on for, oh, a very, very long time. I imagine some of the biological distortions produced might prove quite interesting, actually, from a scientific perspective."

The Bettys exchanged a horrified glance. "Like 'Mawdryn Undead'" whispered the brunette one, and they both shuddered.

Melissa seemed less affected. "Are you threatening us?" she asked in a defiant voice.

"Why, yes, I am," sneered the Rani. "How perceptive of you." She turned her attention to the Doctor. "All right, Doctor,these are my terms. Run my little errand for me, and do it well, and I'll give you back your TARDIS. Refuse, and your human friend here becomes my latest scientific experiment!" And with that, she brought the device directly to bear on:
