Stacy Gets an Unpleasant Shock

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 13385

Stacy saw a look of surprise come over Dr Smith's face. Thoms said: "You told me that you had never met Dr Arden, Ms Jones. Yet here is a photograph of you with him. How do you explain that?" Stacy thought quickly. It was not unreasonable that she should have met Dr Arden at some point, given his line of research. It was unfortunate, thoough, that she should have told Thoms what the detective was bound to see as a deliberate lie.

She said to Thoms:

  1. "I said I didn't know him, not that I'd never met him. Do you see the distinction?" It sounded weak and evasive, she realised.
  2. "That drug with the side effect of amnesia that I mentioned. I've taken it myself."
  3. "I've met that man, yes, but I didn't know it was Dr Arden." (Risky, she knew. Thoms might have proof to the contrary.)
  4. "It's not Ms Jones but Doctor Jones, dammit."
  5. "Where was that photo taken?"
  6. "Why did you pretend that you didn't recognise me, back at Arden's lab, when you had a photo of me?"
