The Never Ending Quest - Episode 13192

"Thank you," said Thoms with an exaggerated courtesy. She led them out of the building and to a car parked outside. A short while later, they had arrived at a nondescript-looking office building. Thoms quickly bustled them into an equally nondescript-looking office. Thoms seated herself behind the desk, and gestured for them to take the other two chairs.

"All right," Thoms began. "Let's start at the beginning." She pointed at Dr. Smith. "I want to know who you are, why you're here, and what you know about Dr. Arden's work."

Smith obediently told her everything she wanted to know: what Arden had mentioned about his work, how Smith had met Stacy, and what they were doing in Arden's lab. Thoms merely gazed impassively at him the whole time, and Stacy found it very difficult to know just what she was thinking.

  1. "All right," said Thoms at last. "I'm beginning to believe you. In which case, maybe the two of you can be of some help..."
  2. "All right," said Thoms to Smith. "Would you wait in the next room, please, so I can talk to Ms. Jones in private?"
  3. Thoms then asked Stacy to tell her story.
  4. Thoms looked from Smith to Stacy, then said. "Then why don't you explain this?" And she pulled a photo out of the desk drawer. It showed Stacy and a man she didn't recognize.
  5. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
