To'og was clearly overjoyed, and Gerkka smiled to see him so happy. Though the ogres were wary of strangers, especially when one of them wasn't going to be able to help hunt anytime soon, and in fact was about to produce yet another mouth to feed, To'og convinced them of their good faith and ability to contribute to the colony. And so Gerkka, for the first time, became part of a community of her own kind. They were certainly a brutish, aggressive people, and this she had already well known, but it seemed exacerbated by their numbers. But they instinctively treated Gerkka with gentleness. It was odd - it sort of reminded her of the way she had once treated ladies, when she... when she had been... But Arahim was right, there was no way she had once been a knight. Even if she had, that was well behind her now. Now it was time for her to be protected, and bear and raise a child. She found that ogres were far from monogamous, and though To'og was certainly ready to provide for his child, it wasn't in a fatherly way; it was only as a part of the colony. Still, he was quite fond of Gerkka, and she of him. There were two other females currently rearing children, though both children were a couple of years old. They had a few tips for Gerkka, and she was glad that she wouldn't be alone in this. There was just one thing about this new life that Gerkka didn't like: the colony's relations with the nearby human towns. And those relations were not gentle. The males, when hunting was bad, would freely go to pillage, bringing back things to eat and drink and wear. Sometimes they even brought back dead humans for the former purpose, though Gerkka simply couldn't bear to eat them. She'd left that life behind, but it still just seemed so completely wrong.
