The day of the wedding came. A few younger girls in the village helped Cinnamon prepare, including doing her hair and makeup and getting into the simple white dress Jessamine had helped her pick out and buy. In the end she felt effervescent, her beautiful hair full of flowers and tumbling in twirling braids down her back. She felt like a woodland sprite, walking out without shoes, and the attendees gasped at her appearance. Borovius looked a bit ridiculous, she couldn't help but admit, in his finest bard's attire of bright colors and poofy sleeves. But she pushed down any misgivings she had, because this was the only path forward she saw. In the end, the two were wed, and Cinnamon let him kiss her. She couldn't deny that he was marvelous at it. At the celebration afterwards, Borovius himself played a new song he had spent the last few days composing, another ode to Cinnamon's beauty. She sat there, turning bright red and grinning ear to ear, because she couldn't help but adore compliments on her appearance, and she was overjoyed to consider that she'd likely be hearing them for the rest of her life. But her smile froze as she considered... that was really all there was to this relationship. He had married her because she was beautiful. He didn't know the first thing about her. But her sense of duty was among the few things she had not lost. She had promised to be this man's wife, and she would fulfill that promise faithfully.
