The Never Ending Quest - Episode 118342

They were mostly bounty hunters, dealing with bandits, brigands, and the occasional ogre or troll threatening small villages. They slept in cheap inns when they could, and had small tents they set up on the roadside for when they couldn't. Cinnamon accompanied them when they got information from the people offering the reward, and stayed behind when they went out seeking their quarry. Borovius held her hand whenever he got the chance, and constantly assured her of her safety. She soon came to realize that he, being a minstrel, really didn't do too much dangerous either, just accompanying them on their perilous tasks to observe, though he sometimes got caught in the crossfire.

Cinnamon... took a long time to warm up to the arrangement. She spent a fair amount of time alone, simply looking after her companions' things. Their life being a very itinerant one, there was little to clean, nowhere to cook, and no chance to garden--the three biggest time consumers of her life with Wenda. So she turned to things like embroidery, sewing, crocheting, and other similar hobbies to pass the time. Anyway, Borovius wrote so many songs for her, it seemed only fair to make him some nice hats and mend his shirts when they got torn.

It was a quiet life. And when she wasn't alone... when she shared a room with Borovius... Well. He was her husband, and she was his wife. And... and. And she still had no idea how to feel about it all. Sometimes she enjoyed it. Sometimes she wept silently as she fell asleep.

Months passed like this. A decided upside was that Imo was teaching her how to write--or at least trying to. She made frustratingly little progress, and she wondered, for the hundredth time, if Belboz had actually made it so she could never learn to read again. Or maybe her mind had withered away in that hut, and this was due to her own idleness. Either way, she frequently was frustrated to tears.

One day, when she'd been in the party for about six months, she was alone in an inn, and had been for many hours. So she put away her knitting needles and went to take a walk around the market. She got stares everywhere she went, and she basked in them, loving being beautiful, even though now there was a new layer to her resulting shame, as she knew that her beauty was for Borovius.

While she was out in the market...

  1. she came across a stand selling a variety of potions.
  2. she was approached by a mysterious hooded figure.
  3. a terrible storm began, very suddenly.
  4. a fortuneteller offered her a free reading.
  5. she began to feel lightheaded.
  6. the ogre that the party had been tracking ransacked the town.
