Was this the right moment to attack? The heat from the metal bar might sear him before he could even enter, but the flamebane mail likely would protect him well enough. He might stumble on the lip between the sluice and the bath. Hazards might be hidden in the steam.

But the dragon appeared to be lightly guarded. Fred also had the element of surprise at this instant. He might never get a better opportunity.

  1. Fred steeled himself for an immediate attack. Once into the bath, he would close with the dragon quickly.
  2. Fred decided to go back to Maggie. He judged that the massage would last a while and that a second person might be useful, either in the fight or its immediate aftermath.
  3. Fred determined to get closer, and then stop and evaluate. This opportunity was too good to pass up. But there was a literal fog of war before him.
